NOLATR Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 9, 2025
Last updated: October 9, 2025
Welcome to NOLATR. We highly value your privacy and want to clearly inform you about what data we process, why, and how. In this privacy policy, we explain how we handle your data, with particular attention to:
- The app and website are Dutch software products, subject to Dutch and European legislation (including GDPR).
- All data is stored only on your phone; NOLATR does not send or store any personal or health data on its servers.
- We aim for maximum transparency, minimal data processing, and full control for you as a user.
1. Definitions and Scope
In this policy, the following terms are defined as:
- User / you / your: the natural person using the NOLATR app or website.
- App / Software: the NOLATR app and any related software features.
- Data: all information collected by the app, including health, lifestyle, sensor, or other personal input.
- Personal Data: any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
- Processing: any operation involving personal data, such as collection, storage, use, modification, consultation, etc.
This privacy policy applies to all use of the NOLATR app and its associated website.
2. Core Principle: Local Storage, No Server Processing
The key principle at NOLATR is that your data is explicitly not sent to our servers. Specifically, this means:
- All data required by the app—such as sensor readings, entered information, or progress statistics—is stored solely on your phone (e.g., in a secure local database).
- NOLATR has no access to your raw data and cannot view, edit, or transmit it.
- There is no synchronization outside your device.
- When using “cloud backups” on your own phone (e.g., via iCloud or Google Drive), this functionality lies beyond our control — you are responsible for your own backup choices and security.
This means NOLATR cannot perform data processing, profiling, or data resale simply because we do not possess your information.
“All data processing within the app occurs solely based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) and is necessary for the app’s functionality.”
3. What Data May Be Collected (and Processed on Your Phone)
Although everything happens locally, the app must use certain data to function properly. Below is an overview of the types of data the app may use:
Type of DataUse within the AppStorage / NotesSensor or measurement data (e.g., heart rate, movement, sleep, steps)For calculations, analyses, and visualizationsStored only on your phoneEntered user data (e.g., height, weight, goals)To generate relevant recommendationsUser can modify or delete at any timeApp performance data / crash logsFor internal quality and debuggingOptional, non-identifyingApp settings, preferencesTo customize app experienceStored locally(Optional) metadata / summaries / aggregated statisticsOnly with your explicit consent and fully anonymizedOnly if you initiate this yourself
Important:
- All access is requested in advance, with clear explanations of its purpose.
- You always have the right to deny or disable access.
“NOLATR does not share data with third parties unless you choose to export or share your data through other apps or cloud services (such as iCloud or Google Drive).”
3A. Consent and Control within the App
When you first use the NOLATR app, you give consent for data usage by completing your profile (e.g., height, weight, goals, or other personal settings).
These details are necessary for the app to function correctly and to provide personalized analyses — all strictly locally on your device.
You retain full control:
- You can adjust or delete your profile at any time via the app settings.
- If you leave certain fields blank or remove data, the app will automatically stop processing that specific information.
- Your choices are stored locally and are not sent to NOLATR or any external parties.
4. User Rights
Even though your data is stored locally, GDPR rights still apply where relevant. As a user, you have at least the following rights:
- Right of access/control: you can view within the app what data is collected and how it is used.
- Right to restrict processing: if you temporarily disable a certain function, the related data collection stops.
Since NOLATR does not perform server-side data processing, the effect of these rights primarily means you maintain control and can have the app stop or remove your data.
“NOLATR is developed according to the principles of privacy by design and privacy by default, as set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).”
5. Security
Security is crucial, even with local storage. Some of our measures include:
- Data on your phone is stored in encrypted form (e.g., device-level encryption).
- In-app communication (e.g., between components) follows secure protocols.
- Where relevant, we use secure libraries and best practices for encryption and storage.
- App permissions are minimized to what is strictly necessary.
- We conduct regular technical audits to prevent vulnerabilities.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to amend this privacy policy from time to time (e.g., when adding new features). Each change will have a new effective date.
For substantial changes, we will notify you via the app or by email, allowing you to decide whether to agree to the new terms.
7. Contact and Complaints
If you have questions, complaints, or requests regarding this policy or your data, you can contact:
